"Today, most acquisition channels, such as Apollo, Clay, Reply.io, and Expandi.io, can be fully automated" - really? We use apollo for example but it hardly feels automated. Someone has to do the prospecting, clean the list, verify the emails, transition these leads to an outbound email software, and so on. In what ways is it fully automated?
Okay, I think my point was that you don't need to change the settings everytime, it's pretty templated. https://www.coldiq.com/ - can build you Clay in autopilot. Expandi + Reply can also do just add new leads, but you won't change campaigns drastically once you set them up. With regards to Apollo, as far as I know how my guys are working, they are pulling data that they need via automation + use extension. But again, the difficult was to adopt best practices and then just use on autopilot. You don't need to build out internal expertize with them.

First time hearing about ColdIQ thanks. OK, I see your point! We still do quite a bit of outreach manually in addition to automated campaigns.
